Sauvignon Blanc 2011

Grapegrowers: Chris and Dave Macdonald and Nick, Lauren, Bill and Julie Hunter
Location: Conders Bend Road and Alma Street Renwick Marlborough
Specifications: Alcohol: 13.5% /vol.
Residual Sugar: 4.1 g/L
pH: 3.16
Titratable Acidity: 7.8 g/L
Viticulture:

Climate: The early ripening season was mild and dry. Favourable conditions over budburst lead to a good fruit set. Wetter weather over late December caused rapid growth and a need for careful canopy management. The later part of the season was both warm and dry, with cool nights to retain acid freshness and delicate flavours. The fruit reached full maturity and optimum ripeness just before heavy rains in mid April.

Soils: Silty loam over gravels
Training: Standard vertical trellis
Tasting Notes:

Colour: Mid-straw
Nose:
Lifted grapefruit/lemon zest and fresh gooseberry fruits, with mineral and nettle undertones.

Palate: The palate is filled with intense citrus aromatics and mineral notes, typical of the Sauvignon Blanc from the Conders Bend area of Marlborough. The clean acidity allows these flavours to linger and create a crisp, fresh finish.

Cellaring: This wine is made to be drunk now, but can be cellared for 2-3 years.

Serve: Lightly chilled
Suggested Foods:
This wine is particularly well suited to seafood dishes, poultry dishes or fresh green salads.
Winemaking:

The grapes were machine harvested in cool morning conditions to minimise the pick up of any phenolics. The clear juice was then racked and cold fermented using selected yeast strains to preserve the fruit’s intense varietal flavours. All ferments were carried out in stainless steel.

After a period of maturation on light lees, the wine was bottled.
Bottling Date: 3rd August, 2011
Winemakers: Sam Smail and Peter Jackson
